This is the latest iteration of our spawn from “The Formless Track”, the techno-Zen album birthed through Arman Ray’s visionary genius and my own random Dharma musings. Of course, you may have already encountered this Sam Leuis remix recently — we have released it already as a video. But the algorithm of production helped us birth several babies of slightly nuanced variation, each one with a different angle on the teachings, a subtler insight into the teaching material, and a sharper lens into the dharmas being expressed. As I have said before, there would be four distinct videos from this remix, each one allowing a slightly different nuance — produced by an algorithm guided by my own selection of thematic material (Memento mori, the Röttgen Pietà, “la Danse macabre”, and the Tibetan Wheel of Samsara) to illustrate and elucidate the teachings.
More than anything, what is most humbling, is to have the voice of Zen Master Seung Sahn introducing the theme of the teaching, and then capping it at the end. His voice was sampled from Dharma talks which he gave to us at his daily morning kong-an talks to us in the Dharma Room of the Seoul International Zen Center, Hwa Gye Sah Temple, in about the year 1999 or 2000, maybe as late as 2001 or 2002. It is a distinct please and a supreme honor to re-present his spirit and his energy to a new generation of listeners and students of the practice. One can imagine few higher joys than to accompany the consciousness of one’s Teacher in such a mode of energetic expression, for as long as the Internet exists.
Enjoy!
