This is a high-altitude view of south Asia. It is extraordinary to see India fit completely into one photograph, this seat of such powerful spiritual technologies. Moreso, I have never before seen an image which clearly reveals the meeting of the two tectonic plates (the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate) whose collision beginning 50 million years ago produced — and produces still — the Himalayas.
It is just astounding to see how the Himalayas rise up like this! I had already seen such demarcation on other maps before, but the compact realism of this photographic image really makes a very deep impact. No wonder they say that 90% of the world’s fresh water is locked in that white crust resting finely on the top of that mountainous shelf.
