Visiting the grave of Avigdor Perets Kosowski, my grandmother’s grandfather, in the old Jewish cemetery of Czestochowa, Poland. I got 1/16 of my genes from him. How much does genetic inheritance matter? Who I am probably owes more to the ideas I got from Sigmund Freud, Jane Goodall and Buddha than to the genes I got from great-great-grandpa Kosowski.
