Religion is Not Necessary for Moral Behavior… [1]

Whenever you see these debates with Christopher Hitchens and some representative of organized religious faith, or Daniel Dennett and some representative of organized religious faith, or Richard Dawkins and some representative of organized religious faith, or Sam Harris and some representative of organized religious faith, the bedrock argument on the “pro-religion” side of the debate boils down consistently to this: Without religion, and without religious strictures and admonitions and rules, human beings would not know how to show love and compassion for others. Human beings need religion in order to know how to be good, how to sacrifice for others, how to serve others, how to love others. Human beings need religion in order to transcend the wall of self/other. Human beings need religion in order to learn charity and selflessness.

And then there are these videos, which completely destroy that point utterly.
