Leaving Finland

It has been a very special experience practicing in silence together with the Buddhists of Finland, sharing the breath and looking into the Great Doubt. The local Sangha here has been as generous and helpful as they have been profoundly inspiring, carrying out the essential work of waking up way up here in the north, where teachers (even some Finnish teachers!) are seldom very active.

(The only downside to the entire experience? The one day which was scheduled to offer teachings outside of Helsinki for a day, President Zelenskyy visits the city on an unannounced itinerary. If news reports are to be believed, he will be visiting Germany today, just as we return there.)

How moving it is to see the Ukrainian flag, flying high above Eliel Saarinen’s timeless masterpiece, the main train station in downtown Helsinki.
