Many people think that spiritual work makes you (or should make you) totally loved and respected. But even Dae Soen Sa Nim used to say, “True bodhisattva means 70% people like you; 30% maybe not like you, not agree. Sometimes even 60%, 40%.” Look at Jesus, back in the day. He didn’t get the majority’s love, and even several of his most intimate disciples betrayed him (Judas) or disavowed any friendship with him (Peter, of St. Peter, i.e., Vatican fame).
